I am starting two more songs of my material. As usual we do all pre-pro work at Gregg's house/studio so he doesn't need to haul his drums around. I think these will be some really fresh sounding tunes and I've got some killer ideas already.
Tracking should begin in the next few weeks at my studio Groovesonics. Also my old friend Rush Clinger, who is a monster percussion player, is back in town, so keep an ear out for our slammin' new rhythm section.
I just finished Erika's song "spiral tap" and am waiting for mastering. Erika had been out of town for several weeks and didn't know exactly what I was doing with her song.
I was very nervous when she came by Groovesonics for her first listen. I am very happy that she loves it! I had a great time putting the pieces together on this one and as usual I learned a lot. It was great to work with Erika. I will post the song when it comes back from mastering.
I am very pleased to have an opportunity like this. Erika is an established artist known worldwide, and is involved in many interesting projects. Check her out at erikluckett.com
For her latest song "spiral tap", she is bringing me in to add my sound to her voice and guitar. We will start tracking sessions soon and hope have it wrapped by early September.
Nathan wins award at nmma's for "best musical production for a rock-mainstream song" with his song "tight grip", which he wrote, produced, engineered, mixed, and played on. Other musicians include Gregg Thum playing drums and Leif Krosby on vocals. Nathan was also a nominee for the "best engineer" category.
"I had a great time at the awards. I brought my wife and two daughters and we met some really talented, interesting people. I was blown away by the range of talent we have in N.M., I had no idea. I wanted to do a song to enter into the awards to see what would happen, and that's how "tight grip" came into being. I feel blessed to have won, as the other songs in my category were all very well done. Hopefully this will help lead me in some positive new directions."
I have just received the master for "The Power", and am pleased to have completed another song of my material. At this time I do not have a release date, as I am thinking of doing a whole record.
I was really trying to do a positive message rap/rock thing and took some cues from some Cuban music that I really dig. I would like to thank the players/ singers who worked with me on this production:
Gregg thum- drums (and also the killer distorted ipod mic accident)
Erika Luckett- Spanish vocals (which she wrote), backing vocals, and clapping
Katy Palmier-lead female vocals and the killer vocal solo at the end
